conduct in battle in the Gilbert Islands while in command of the destroyer

In 1999 Commander Thomas Henry Copeman, III was C.O. of
USS Benfold DDG-65. More recently Vice Admiral Copeman is assigned as Commander, Naval Surface Forces Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
