 In 1944 Commander Copeman was awarded the Silver Star for his conduct in battle in the Gilbert Islands while in command of the destroyer USS Brown DD-546. CLICK to read about the USS Brown in battle.

Fast forward to year 2009: Thomas H. Copeman III is a career officer.
Several years ago he was C.O. of USS Benfold DDG-65, and in early 2009
Rear Admiral Copeman was named to take over command of
Joint Task Force - Guantanamo.
